Derelict ruins of a once-beautiful building. Very dangerous, especially near the southwest corner where it is leaning and bricks are falling off from several floors above.
Great buildings survive in Gary! These architectural gems were built in the 1920's and are still being used. Many of the houses in the area are decent and apparently well-maintained. Media reports tend to ignore the good things here.
Derelict and crumbling railway station in Gary, Indiana, on Broadway between the toll road and USS entrance. This once-impressive building is cracking and the ceiling has fallen. Roof trusses are exposed to weather and badly rusted. It is made of concrete, not limestone.
Another great building survives in Gary, Indiana! Thoughtfully designed by Prairie School architect George W. Maher to blend with the surrounding Dunes landscape, both in color and shape. Absurdly garish square/cubic light fixtures were added in the 1960's. The kitchen is being vented right out the front upper windows, so there's grease all over above the main entrance.

Crumbling partial remnant of an architectural masterpiece. Designed by local architect Joe Henry Wildermuth. Profoundly excellent brick/masonry work by John Largura. Didn't anyone take pictures of this building in its heyday?
