A fuzzy kinescope from the early days of TV. The cheesy back drops are a far cry from the elaborate sets of EP's Hollywood heyday. Also, it looks like she's having back problems.
Canadian Step Dance Championships 2001. She was also European Tap Dance champ sometime in the 90's. This is Ottawa Valley style--Eleanor Powell would have been quite at home here.
She was a regular with Spike Jones and his City Slickers. This clip is from a Vaudeville-style movie. This is an improved quality video to the one I previously posted a couple of years ago. Click "Watch This Video in High Quality" if you have a broad band connection--it will look great.
From a short. A collegiate contest. The other side could have had Eleanor Powell--no matter, she would have sucked. Partisanship at its worst--but, what the hell, it's fiction.
From "The Toast of the Town" in the early fifties. "Old Stone Face" can be heard egging her on at the start. It would be great if the old shows, which are all preserved on kinescopes, could be released.
Eleanore Whitney with another hot tapnumber. The character Johnny Downs plays is obviously pissed off about something having to do with the plot, but one wonders if what he is really irritated about how much better she is than he.
From "Father Knows Best." She actually started tap dancing as a child from the influence of her big sister. Unfortunately, the looped taps sound really phony. She obviously had (or still has) the skills to lay-em-down live. I wonder how long she had to lobby the writers for a tap script?
